The NALNECT committee have recently gained confirmation that MIND will be running workshops at the National ECT Nurse Conference on 15th September 2010. This is the final announcement for the programme, which is expected to be bigger and better than ever before. See you there!
Today 26th August 2010 is the closing date for the 3rd National ECT Nurse Conference. No more bookings will be taken from today.
The next meeting of the Midlands ECT Nurse Group will be on November 17th 2010 at 9:30 for a 10am start at Nottingham ECT dept, South Block A floor QMC Nottingham.
This will be followed by a meeting on March 16th 2011 at the Warneford in Oxford.
Group members and new attendees are asked to please confirm attendance with Janie Cornish, as that helps to choose the size of room for the meeting etc.
The next NALNECT committee meeting will be on Wednesday 17th November 2010, 10am, at Hillview Psychiatric Unit, Bath. This will be the AGM.
To all ECT nurses working in Northern Ireland, a regional ECT Special Interest Group has been set up. Like the group in Wales, it is a multidisciplinary group. Eilish Boyle, nurse education consultant, from Knockbracken Healthcare Park reports, “To date we have held 2 multiprofessional meetings. There are representatives from all 5 Trusts in Northern Ireland.” Eilish is the current chair of the group. Another member of the Northern Ireland Group, Catherine Brennan, also recently commenced attending the NALNECT committee meetings, representing their group. NALNECT will continue to support their colleagues in Northern Ireland.
ECTAS have announced the dates for the next set of 3 day training for ECT nurses. First date is 29th September 2010. Training is again to take place in London. ECTAS member lead nurses free of charge. Non ECTAS members £300 per course. Tel. 02079776652 for more information. The course has been developed in collaboration between ECTAS and NALNECT.

Bookings are now being taken for the Third National ECT Nurse Conference to take place on 15th September 2010 in Birmingham. Fee is £100 with reduced rates for members of ECT nurse special interest groups and student nurses. Places are free for nurses who have attended the 2009 ECTAS ECT nurse training days and who are also ECTAS members. NALNECT is pleased to announce the confirmation of it 3rd and final speaker for the 3rd National ECT Nurse Conference. It is Kim Shepherd, from Pennine Care NHS Trust, presenting on ECT and the new Mental Health Act.
NICE has announced that on 28th October 2009, it will publish its update on its Depression guidelines. Note, ECT guidelines are incorporated into these guidelines.
