Special Interest Groups

Our regional Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are detailed below:

North West, England. Est. Jan1999.

The group came into being following the first North West ECT nurse conference in Bolton. The group provides the opportunity for nurses working within the ECT setting to meet within a formal structure.

The group is a founding member of and has representatives on the NALNECT committee. The NW group’s Chairperson, (Lynn Groves), has a representative seat only within NALNECT.

Meetings are held 3 times a year (including an AGM) at various locations throughout the North West of England and North Wales.

There is an annual membership fee of £25 for each Clinic (not member) and a pledge of attendance to two meeting per year per clinic.  New members are welcome.

South West, England. Est. Summer 2000.

The group was inspired by the North West Group some founding members having attended their 2nd NW region ECT nurse conference.  Clinics were invited to join from as far as Surrey and Bucks to South Wales. The value of collaborative and supportive working between ECT professionals was clear.  All wanted to improve the service they offered to their patients.  By using the forum to share clinical practise, standards of care, research, networking and giving support to one another.

Some group members were formative in founding NALNECT in 2002.  The chairperson, (John Leyden), has a representative position of NALNECT. All new members are welcome.

South East, England Est 2009

The group developed to reduce the large number of members in the South West England group. It hopes to include members from the Kent and London area in the future. The chairperson, (Karen Osola), has a representative position of NALNECT. All new members are welcome.

North East, England Est.2002

The group represents nurses working in ECT clinics across West Yorkshire and the North East.  Group members have been at the forefront of providing education to ECT nurses. They have been involved in collaboration with Hull University to provide an academic course and the First National ECT nurse conference took place in their region, 2007. Some group members were formative in founding the NALNECT committee. Current chairperson – Alison Osgerby. All new members are welcome.

All Wales ECT Network (AWEN) Est. June 2005.

The network group was established to meet the needs of ECT professionals in Wales. This group is inclusive to all professional disciplines involved with ECT.

The group meets every six months at various locations in Wales. The chairperson is on a rotational basis. A group member was formative in founding NALNECT. Only the nurse representatives are members of the NALNECT committee. AWEN nurse rep – Kara Hannigan. All new members are welcome.

 Midlands, England. Est. 2005.

The group has a geographical spread from, Nottingham in the North, Peterborough in the East, Hereford and Oxford in the South and Walsall in the West.  The group agrees that all nurses working within ECT settings are welcome and that networking is an important element to provide support, inspiration.

The group is vibrant, innovative and invites the sharing of ideas and practises, which provides a catalyst in promoting both evidence based practice and increasing the quality of care for patients.

Both regular and controversial topics are discussed and guest speakers are invited. New members are welcome. The chairperson, (Janie Cornish), has a representative position within the NALNECT committee.

Northern Ireland. Est. 2009.

This group is inclusive to all professional disciplines inviloved with ECT. Starting to look at a Northern Ireland wide, regional approach to the care and treatment of patients undergoing ECT, regarding policies and practices which are very different. New members are welcome. The chairperson, (Eilish Boyle), has a representative position within the NALNECT committee.
